2016 – 2017 LOWRY YEARBOOK
Our Yearbook has arrived! All pre-ordered copies are available in the computer lab before school (7:30 – 8:00 am) or from 2:30-3:00 pm.
MILE HI SCHOLARS ~ each year, the Mayor of Denver honors Denver Public School students as Mile High Scholars. The principal and faculty at their school select students for modeling good leadership, respect for self, others, and the school environment, and for supporting their peers. Students receive a certificate, a picture with the Mayor, and various awards. Congratulations to this year’s Mile High Scholars! ~ Hannah Hunt and Daniel Yonas ~
They were celebrated at the Buell Theater on April 26. We are so very proud of both students!
Talent Show – Save the date for this year’s exciting talent show! The show will be on Thursday, May 25 from 5:00-6:30 in the auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend the show, but an adult must accompany students! ANY MOVING BOXES? We are looking for any moving boxes of all sizes, especially book box size. We have several teachers changing classrooms and we will need to package up things for moves over the summer. All boxes can be dropped off at the office. All kinds accepted! Thanks in advance!
LAST CHANCE! If you have not seen the art at the Denver Public Library-Schlessman Branch this is your last opportunity. Art will be coming down on April 30th. It has been open for the public to see and features our 3rd grade students. They created art showing the importance of “Earth Day”. Art is on display throughout the children’s section, so browse and enjoy it before it ends.

Letter from the Lunchroom~ As you know the end of the school year is near, and I must collect past due balances on student’s lunch accounts to ensure that your students maintain a positive balance. As of May 12, 2017, there will be no more charging meals.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE MONEY IN THEIR ACCOUNT OR BRING MONEY TO SCHOOL every day after MAY12, 2017 in order to receive a complete meal. Students without money on their account will receive a cold cheese sandwich and white milk per the District’s Charge Policy that you can find at this link: (http://enterprisemanagement.dpsk12.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/meal_prices.pdf).
There are approximately 25 days left of school, so $46.25 would be needed to finish out the school year.
(25 days x$ 1.85 per day for lunch = $46.25) Parents, I am encouraging you to pay what your child needs into their account so that you do not have to worry about your student’s lunch account for the rest of the year. PARENT SATISFACTION SURVEYS~ Parent satisfaction surveys are due in the office by May 12. We will be awarding the class with the highest number of returned surveys with a pizza party. One party for primary and one party for intermediate. We realize that some students only have their older siblings required to turn in a survey and we will consider those when awarding the pizza parties. Know that all surveys remain confidential. Mr. Val will be using a scanner to keep data on how many surveys per class are returned, not per student.
+Pass required for 2017-18~ For the 2017-18 school year, Transportation Services is making it a requirement for all transportation-eligible students to have and use a +Pass when riding the school bus. A student must request a +Pass through the front office.
DESTINATION IMAGINATION ~~ COLORADO STATE CHAMPIONS!
Destination Imagination (DI) is the world’s largest creative problem solving competition programs. Of the more than 15,000 teams that start the year competing in 48 different states and 30 countries, 1,400 teams earn the opportunity to compete in Global Finals at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Lowry’s Project Outreach team “We Can’t Agree” is one of those teams placing in the top 3 at the State competition and will be representing Colorado! This is the second time any Lowry Elementary Destination Imagination Team has gone to Global Finals!
Team members Aliya Levin, Peyton Mendelsburg, Mena Kolozs, Ben Ulwelling and Noah Landen did an amazing job with their team challenge, and their instant challenge. Their team manager, Laura Levin, is so proud to see where their hard work and perseverance has taken them. Please be on the lookout for upcoming team fundraising efforts to help support their competing on the Global stage!
PARENT PORTAL~ Do you have a Parent Portal account? Get your parent portal account now, so you can participate in online registration this August. Go to https://myportal.dpsk12.org or click on the parent portal button on the bottom of the Lowry website to set up an account. More August registration information coming soon.

Discovery Link 2017-2018 registration will be opening for Lowry for families. All families fall into a specific category and we will be adhering to the times and deadlines strictly.
