My name is Jessica Bass and I teach first grade at Lowry
Elementary. I am always excited to start
a new school year here and I am just as enthusiastic as always. One reason I love Lowry so much is just for
its amazing students, teachers and families.
Lowry is a very special place that involves a strong community, sharing
of ideas and collaboration to make an extremely successful environment. I feel lucky to be a part of such a wonderful
place. GO EAGLES!!!! One of my strongest memories from elementary school was when
I was a brave and very outgoing third grader.
I can picture it now: walking
down the hall and stumbling upon a poster announcing a talent show! You can imagine my alarm when I noticed that
the date was the very day I was reading the poster which meant I had nothing
prepared. Well, lucky for me, I had my
headphones and my favorite cassette in my desk back in my classroom. This was the year 1985 and my favorite tape
was the Grease soundtrack, yeah baby! After
school, I walked into the gym, handed over my tape (not knowing what song was
waiting to be played) and took my place.
Now, I need to mention that there were so many people watching who were
waiting to try out so I was not alone with just the judges. They pushed play and out of the tape player
blasted, Hopelessly Devoted To You by Olivia Newton John. There I was just, floating around in front of
the school trying to show off my best dance moves. I actually thought I was doing a good job
when I fell and gave myself a huge rug burn on my knee. OUCH!
The judges turned off my music said, “Thanks” and I sat down with the
rest of the students. I waited a whole
two days just to discover I didn’t make the cut. Very embarrassing but funny. Something that most people don’t know about me is that my
favorite movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and I can recite the entire movie
without making one mistake (It makes my boyfriend completely annoyed)!
