Hello there! My name is Melissa Fogal, and I am absolutely thrilled to be back
at Lowry Elementary, the BEST school in Denver. (And possibly the world!) It is
difficult to summarize what I like most about working at Lowry. The word that
keeps popping into my head is the word KIDS. I get excited to come to work
everyday because the kids here are excited to learn. My fourth and fifth grade
classes here arrive ready to use their sparkling imaginations and incredible
thinking skills, and I am always blown away by their willingness to share their
learning with me. Each day I am filled with gratitude for the wonderful
environment the Lowry community has created, the supportive staff and friends
that I have made, and of course the KIDS.
One of my favorite
memories from school was my fifth grade continuation. I was chosen to play the
piano as my classmates walked into the auditorium. I played the theme to the
movie St. Elmo's Fire (a classic 80's hit!) and I was filled with emotions,
because I knew it was an important milestone in my life. I think about that
moment each year the fifth grade students walk across the stage to move on to
middle school. It is a proud moment for all!
Something that most
people do not know about me is that I am learning how to play the guitar (and
soon, the drums!). My husband is an amazing guitarist and he is teaching me at
home. It is nice for me to switch roles and be a student. I think sometimes as
adults we can forget how hard it is to be a student learning something totally
foreign, and it has given me a new appreciation for what my students go through.
Learning is hard work! I can hardly wait to learn how to bang on those drums, it
looks so fun!
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to seeing you
soon.
