SUSAN RICH Speech/Language Specialist
No retirement for me! I
just began my fourth year as Lowry's Speech/Language Specialist. In May of
2004, I retired from Jefferson County Schools after 26 years of providing
therapy services to preschool and elementary (K-6) students. After receiving my
Bachelors Degree (C.U. Boulder) and my Masters Degree (Denver University), I
worked in a school for 150 multiply-handicapped students with various
disabilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Cleft Palate, and hearing
handicaps. Later, I worked with Child Find for 13 years evaluating children
ages 3-6. Following that, I became an itinerant Speech/Language Specialist and
worked in four different Elementary schools in Jeffco. After retiring from that
district, I was rehired as a Consultant for the Speech/Language Department.
Since saying "no" to retirement, I was hired by Denver Public Schools and with a
stroke of good luck, I was placed at Lowry Elementary.
I am a Denver
native and attended Denver Public Schools (K-12). I am a proud graduate of
George Washington High School and married a G.W. graduate. Danny and I are
celebrating our 29th Anniversary next week (8/19) and have two daughters,
Britney (26) and Kelsey (23). They both have chosen theater as their careers.
Britney is a Costume Designer and Kelsey performs in Musical Theater.
Currently, both are working on the upcoming show, "Full Monty" at Littleton Town
Hall Arts Center which will be opening in September.
I work half-time at
Lowry serving students with speech and/or language disabilities. I feel
extremely fortunate to be part of such a phenomenal staff and can truly say with
pride, "I love Lowry!"
