Lowry Family Update Tour

Message from Dr. Larkin:

We had a wonderful start to our school year! We are thrilled to have our students in the building.

As we get back into the flow of the school year, I have some reminders and new information to share with you.

  • Our new school hours are 8:10 a.m.-3:10 p.m. Students are marked tardy if they arrive at school after 8:20 a.m.; if students are late, they must check-in in the main office.

  • Please make sure that you have registered for the new DPS app. We will be utilizing this app as our main form of communication between teachers and families. Directions for how to access the app are at the bottom of this message. You will still receive emails and/or text messages for school-wide communication.

  • If your child rides the school bus, please register for the My Ride K-12 app. My Ride will provide real-time bus updates and ensure student safety to and from school. Read about the app and get a link to download it here

  • Discovery Link provides before and after school programming for students. As of this summer, there is a new registration website. If you have questions related to Discovery Link, please contact our Site Coordinator, Caren Goldberg.

  • All adults who are in the building must have a badge. If you are coming to Lowry for any reason, you must enter through the front doors and check-in in the main office to receive a visitor badge.

  • To ensure that instructional time is maximized, we are requesting that parents/guardians say goodbye to their students outside of the building. Parents/guardians should not be walking students to their classrooms inside the building.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year. Thank you for your partnership and cooperation to make sure our students are learning, present, safe, and SOAR!

In partnership,

Dr. Annie Larkin

DPS App Information:

The DPS app and Rooms are meant to replace different parent-teacher communication tools used by schools in the past. By bringing classroom communication and messaging into our district app, we hope to create a simpler and ultimately better communication experience.

Key Features

  • Messages: With Messages, teachers and guardians can message each other whenever they need to, and students can ask teachers classroom-related questions. This is a secure space for student-teacher communication that is monitored by administrators.

  • Translations: Messages and announcements within Rooms will automatically be translated according to the language setting on your device. That means if your phone is set to Spanish for example, messages and announcements within Rooms will automatically be translated to Spanish—without you having to change a single setting on the app.

  • Classes: When you open Rooms in the DPS app, the first page you’ll see is the Classes Homepage. This page gives you quick and easy access to all of your student’s classes, and you can view notifications within each class.

  • Stream: Here, teachers and staff can post class content, and students and guardians can view any new updates. You can see class announcements, pictures of activities and events and upcoming assignments within a particular course.

  • Events: Our school events are available in the app!

How to Download the DPS App and Sign In to Rooms

  • Download the Denver Public Schools app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Once installed, open the app, then tap “Rooms,” then “Continue to sign in.”

  • Type in your guardian email address or phone number (phone numbers tend to work better than email addresses!).

  • If you typed in your email address, tap “Log in with code.” If you typed in your phone number, you will automatically receive a code. Type this code in when prompted.

  • You will be prompted to select your preferred communication language. Be sure to save this so all of your communication is translated.

  • You will be automatically signed into your students’ Rooms.

  • To view Lowry’s information, select “Lowry Elementary” on the home screen. You will be able to access our Feed, Events, Staff, and more!

  • Still have questions about Rooms? Visit the Rooms FAQ page.
