Lowry Family Update, September 15-19, 2025

Message from Dr. Larkin:

On Wednesday, September 17, members of our staff will host a Snacks with Staff event at 550 Alton Way (3:40-4:30 p.m.). This event is unique to our school community and provides an opportunity for our staff, students, and families to come together in a fun and engaging way. Our staff truly feels that we are a Lowry family and we are here to support our students and families! All families are invited to attend Snacks with Staff. We hope to see you there!

Last week, we held our district-mandated lockdown drill. These drills are required to ensure that students, staff, and visitors know what to do in the event of an emergency. Students did a wonderful job following staff directions, and we appreciate our staff members’ diligence in keeping our students safe. If you have more questions about DPS safety protocols, visit this link.

What’s Happening at Lowry:

  • Every public school in Colorado has a Collaborative School Committee (CSC). Lowry’s first CSC meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 4:30-5:30 p.m. All parents/guardians are invited to attend the meeting, either virtually or in-person. Attending CSC meetings is a great way to learn more about the school and the efforts to support student learning.  If you are joining virtually, you may join via the link sent in your email. The agenda for the meeting is:

    • Call to Order/Introductions/Community Rep Vote/Approval of Minutes

    • CSC Overview/Scope of Work

    • Data Overview - SPF (School Performance Framework)

    • Enrollment Update

    • Public Input

    • Setting of agenda for next meeting

    • Next Meeting: 10/21 4:30-5:30 pm

  • We will be opening our Book Vending Machine soon! The vending machine will be used as an attendance incentive; selected students will receive a brand new book! In order to implement the program, we need donations of new books. You can purchase books from Amazon or through our updated link from The Bookies. Books will be shipped directly to the school. Thank you to the families who already donated books!

  • We Are Lowry Night will be held on Thursday, September 25 (5:30-7:30 p.m.). We Are Lowry Night celebrates the diversity of our school community. All families are welcome to attend this night of community, food, learning, and student performances. RSVP for the event: English, Spanish, Arabic. Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Families will then move to rotations; families will need to follow the schedule of one of their students (or divide and conquer to see performances and classroom visits if you have more than 1 child at Lowry). As a reminder, students may not be left unattended during the event–this is a family event.

Family Activity Corner:

This month, try making your own family bingo card! You can use a free website to design a board filled with activities like “read a book together,” “cook a new recipe,” “take a nature walk,” or “family game night.” For a one-night version, add quick fun ideas such as “tell a joke,” “do 10 jumping jacks,” “draw a silly picture,” or “sing a song together.” Families can play, mark off squares, and celebrate when someone gets “Bingo!”
