Message from Dr. Larkin:
Lowry is busy, busy, busy right now! Our We Are Lowry Night was a huge success. Special thanks to our CARE Committee for organizing the event, the PTO for funding Community Resources, and Nurse Cathy for organizing our community health partners.
I hope that you saw our PTO’s Annual Giving Campaign in previous communication, at an event, or on social media. Our PTO fundraises in order to provide student, school, staff, and community programming throughout the year. The PTO needs to fundraise to provide these programs–without their support, we would not be able to have as many experiences for our students, supplement our teacher supplies, or hold community events. The PTO’s goal is for 100% of our families to give to the campaign. You can donate online or by picking up a paper donation form in the main office.
We will kick off our attendance incentive on October 6! All students who are present for the entire week (beginning today) will be entered into a drawing to choose a new book from the vending machine. We can’t wait to see which books they choose!
I am excited to share that our student population has increased this year and we have been able to add new staff members to our team in order to meet the needs of all students! Please help us by welcoming the following staff members to Lowry:
Eric Sinclair, Dean of Culture–I worked with our Collaborative School Committee for approval for a Dean of Culture position. Mr. Sinclair, a longtime educator and former Lowry parent, will now support our behavior team and add to the available social-emotional supports for our students.
Antonella Correa Garcia and Mireya Alaniz, Spanish-Language Paraprofessionals–We have an increased number of students and families who speak Spanish. Based on our increased population, we were able to hire two Spanish-language paras to help students and families! Antonella and Mireya will be helping with Spanish interpretation in the main office; the best times to speak to Antonella or Mireya are the first and last hours of the school day.
Jill Daugherty, Special Educator–We hired a part-time special educator to support our current Special Education team. Ms. Daugherty starts today. We’re happy to have all of these new members to our Aviator team!

What’s Happening at Lowry:
The Colorado Avalanche are coming to Lowry! They’ll be meeting with all students in grades 1-5 on Friday, October 24 during their specials classes. The Avs will be teaching hockey skills to the students; in order to participate, all students need to have a waiver signed. You can complete the waiver online or complete the paper form (the form is attached; return to school prior to October 24). In addition to coming to school, the Avs are offering discounted tickets! Scan the attached QR code to find out more!
Each year, families are asked to complete the federal Meal Benefits Application. Colorado provides free lunch to students, but it is critical that our families complete the Meal Benefits form to ensure that we receive additional federal funding. This funding helps us meet the needs of all students! We are asking all families to complete the application, even if you feel that you do not qualify (there is an option to decline the benefits once you log in). Complete the application here
Our attendance incentive begins next week! All students who are on time and present for the entire week will be entered into a drawing to win a book from the Book Vending Machine; winners will be selected on October 6. If you would like to donate books for the vending machine, check out our wish lists: Amazon and The Bookies.
Social Media Highlights:
Have you checked out our social media pages? We encourage you to follow both our school and PTO-managed social media accounts.
Lowry Elementary (Facebook) and Lowry_aviators (Instagram): These accounts are managed by the dynamic duo of Mrs. Schuster and Mrs. Wingard! They do an amazing job of showcasing so much of what we do at Lowry. Be sure to check out the We Are Lowry Night recap posts, especially if you missed out on this fantastic night of community.
Lowryelementarypto (both Facebook and Instagram): Our PTO posts information about their events, as well as sharing some of the content from the school’s social media and local businesses and organizations. The PTO hosts activities multiple times a month–check out their social media so you don’t miss out on the fun!
