Message from Dr. Larkin:
Recently, our PTO asked families to show up and provided a number of opportunities for how families can do this. We have another option for families to show up–recess support! In the past, we have had Connect Us, a non-profit organization, provide recess support and help students learn to play through organized games. Unfortunately, Connect Us had to close their doors and we are missing them! To help us fill in the gaps by not having Connect Us, we are asking parents/guardians to help us play games at recess! We are purchasing a variety of indoor and outdoor recess activities (including Gaga Ball) and need your help in order to implement our new activities. If you are interested in helping, you will need to complete an interest form, which contains more information about the program and requirements. Thank you for your interest and support!
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we have hired a number of new staff members to support our Lowry team. In order to help our families understand the role of some of our non-classroom staff members, we are going to share staff spotlights throughout the year. Our first spotlight is Eric Sinclair, our new Dean of Culture. Read below to learn more about Mr. Sinclair and his role at Lowry!
Staff Spotlight:
Eric Sinclair is originally from Iowa; after graduating from the University of Iowa, he moved to Colorado in 2004. After completing his student teaching in Social Studies at East High School right here in Denver, Mr. Sinclair held a number of jobs at East: paraprofessional, then Social Studies teacher, and finally as Dean of Culture. While he worked at East, Mr. Sinclair’s children attended Lowry from Kindergarten through 5th grades! Mr. Sinclair joined the Lowry staff last year as a paraprofessional in the MI-A classroom and moved into the Dean of Culture role in early October. This is Mr. Sinclair’s 19th year in Denver Public Schools.
As a Dean of Culture, Mr. Sinclair has a variety of responsibilities, the primary of which is to ensure student and school safety. Mr. Sinclair and his service dog, Boomer, support lunch and recess times, monitor the hallways, and help students who need to work through problems in class or with their peers. He collaborates with the members of our Student Support team, including Ms. Patricia, Mr. Derrick, and Ms. Thompson, to support students’ emotional development. Additionally, Mr. Sinclair works with all members of the school staff to implement our routines, structures, and procedures.
Mr. Sinclair shares that through his own children’s “great experiences at Lowry and my love for the Lowry community, I am so happy to be working as the Dean of Culture at Lowry.” If you need to contact Mr. Sinclair, you can reach him via email or on his work cell phone during the hours of 7:30 a.m-4:30 p.m.: (720) 795-8132. You’ll often find Mr. Sinclair and Boomer walking around the building–the next time you’re here and you see them, please say hello!

The Colorado Avalanche are coming to Lowry! They’ll be meeting with all students in grades 1-5 on Friday, October 24 during their specials classes. The Avs will be teaching hockey skills to the students; in order to participate, all students need to have a waiver signed. You can complete the waiver online or complete the paper form (the form is attached; return to school prior to October 24). In addition to coming to school, the Avs are offering discounted tickets! Scan the QR code to find out more.
The PTO is organizing its first Trunk-or-Treat! Join us for trick-or-treating in the school parking lot on October 26, 3:30-5:30 p.m. The Lowry Community Master Association will host a face painter at the event. We need families to host trunks or tables for students and neighborhood children to visit! We need 20-30 trunks/tables–let us know if you would like to host! We have a list of ideas for how to decorate your trunk or table. You can go as extreme or as minimal as you would like!
Halloween Parties and our annual Parade will take place on Thursday, October 30. The parties will be held in the classroom during the day–be on the lookout for more information from your child’s teacher or classroom liaison about the party. The parade will be held on the field at 2:30 p.m. Families are asked to watch their students from the sidewalk on the outside of the school fence.
