Message from Dr. Larkin:

Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention Month? Lowry’s Behavior and Student Support teams regularly work with our students to teach and support students regarding bullying and bullying prevention. In the coming weeks, Mr. Derrick will begin teaching Second Step Bullying Prevention lessons to 3rd-5th graders. If you would like more information about Bullying Prevention, visit the DPS School Culture & Bullying Prevention page or take a look at the Our DPS Weekly email that was sent from DPS on October 17. What’s Happening at Lowry:

  • We are looking forward to our Halloween parties and parade (Thursday, October 30)!

    • Please read the communication directly from your student’s teacher regarding costumes (wearing to school or changing into the costume during the day).

    • Costumes should not be gory, include a weapon, or have a mask that covers the face, as all of our students will be participating in the parade and we do not want to scare anyone!

    • The parade will take place at 2:30 p.m.; families are invited to watch the parade from the sidewalk on Maple Ave. Student pick-up will take place at the normal time and locations.

  • We are asking parents/guardians to help us play games at recess! We are purchasing a variety of indoor and outdoor recess activities (including Gaga Ball) and need your help in order to implement our new activities. If you are interested in helping, you will need to complete an interest form, which contains more information about the program and requirements.

  • There are a number of opportunities for our families to participate in local community events or organizations:

    • Meal Giveaway Drive-Thru Event for families on Monday, November 25, 12-4 p.m., Place Bridge Academy Parking Lot. Registration is required; scan the QR code on the flyer to register (English, Spanish, French, Arabic).

    • A Legal Information and City Resources Fair will offer families, especially those from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, the opportunity to learn more about their rights and access local support services. This event is on Tuesday, October 28. See the flyer for more information.

    • Would you like more trick-or-treating opportunities? East High School’s DECA Organization is hosting a Trick-or-Treat Street on Wednesday, October 29. George Washington High School’s DECA Organization is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat on Thursday, October 30.

    • History Colorado offers Winter, Spring, and Summer camps! The Winter Camp registration opens on Friday, October 31; we will send out a flyer on Friday. These camps typically fill up quickly, so be ready to register.

Grade Level Shout Out

Shout out to 5th grade students for working so hard on their beginning of the year literacy, math, and science district-wide interims! Students are focused and showing their knowledge through complex questions and short essay responses. These tests are not easy and take a lot of perseverance, we are so proud of our 5th grade students putting in their very best effort. Way to go, 5th graders!
