Lowry Family Update, January 19-23, 2026

Message from Dr. Larkin:

Over the next few weeks, students will be taking part in mid-year DIBELS testing to assess their literacy skills. On January 23, staff from the University of Denver will be at Lowry to help us analyze our literacy data and continue our work on design improvement. Our partnership with DU is part of our work with the Black Student Success Plan and we are constantly working to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students through design improvement (routines/procedures, instructional practices, etc.). We look forward to sharing the results of your student’s DIBELS testing at our spring conferences on February 12 and 13. There is no school for students on February 12 and 13

We continue to see a number of students dropped off early or picked up after our school hours have ended. As a reminder, our school hours are 8:10 a.m.-3:10 p.m. Students should not be dropped off prior to 8 a.m. If you need before or after care on-site, please register for Discovery Link.

What’s Happening at Lowry:

  • If you watch 9News, you might have seen one of our Lowry parents, Dr. Angela Narayan, sharing ways to keep your kiddos engaged at home and in the community. Check out Angela’s segment from earlier this month to hear a special Lowry shoutout!

  • Thanks to our staff members who are helping to coordinate field trips! Our students love attending field trips and learning in a new setting. If you would like to chaperone a field trip, make sure you have completed a background check.

Family Activity Corner: Set a Family Intention

January is a time to pause, reflect, and begin again. This simple activity invites families to connect and think about how they want to support one another this year. Try this together at home:

  1. Find a few quiet minutes to sit together as a family.

  2. Take turns answering one question:

    • What helps me feel safe, calm, or happy at home?

    • What is something I want to practice or work on this year?

    • How can we support each other as a family?

  3. Choose one family intention (a shared focus), such as kindness, patience, teamwork, or taking care of ourselves.

  4. Say your family intention out loud or write it down and place it somewhere visible at home.

This activity supports communication, connection, and a sense of belonging for all families.

In partnership,

Dr. Annie Larkin
