Message from Dr. Larkin:
We are holding another attendance push for February. Every child who is present each day during the entire month of February will earn a token to our Book Vending Machine! All of our students love the vending machine–what a great way to celebrate perfect attendance in February! While our vending machine is currently stocked with books, we will need more in order to implement this incentive for our winners. If you would like to donate a book, please visit our registries: Amazon and The Bookies.
Last year, we worked on revamping our school’s website–the layout and content are new! We are constantly updating it to make it work for our families. If you have not yet checked it out, please visit it to view:
Quick link buttons: School Calendar (includes our no school days), School Events (an updated calendar with school/PTO events), School Tours (for prospective families), and Staff List.
“Explore” menu at the top of the page sends you to our Live Feed (also available at the bottom of the website), Staff List, and News (also available at the bottom of the website). Our Weekly Family Update email is posted in the News section for your convenience.
“About” and “Academics & Programs”: This section contains information about our school and specific offerings.
“Family Resources”: Click here to find information about Lowry and DPS supports, including our school supply list and food pantry resources.
“Support”: Check out the ways that you can be involved and/or support Lowry, such as a link to our PTO website, information about the Collaborative School Committee, how to volunteer, and ways to donate.
Important Dates:
January 27: Collaborative School Committee (CSC) Meeting, 4:30-5:30 p.m. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. You can join in-person or via Google Meet. The agenda can be found here; the majority of the meeting will focus on the budget/staffing for the 2026-2027 school year. We do not anticipate having a meeting on February 3 as originally scheduled.
February 3-10: Dos Amigas Orders (PTO Fundraiser). The PTO will send communication regarding this delicious and easy fundraiser! Orders will be delivered to your home on Wednesday, February 11.
February 11: Friendship Day Parties will be held during the school day in homeroom classes. Be on the lookout for information from your child’s teacher and/or classroom liaison.
February 12 & 13: No School for Parent/Guardian Conferences. Scheduling information will come directly from your child’s homeroom teacher. Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to learn about your child’s progress!
What’s Happening at Lowry:
We are continuing to work on our afternoon Departures Lane! Before we finalize and promote this new system, we want to hear from you. Please complete this Departure Lane Survey by 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 29.
The DPS Southeast Community Hub has a number of learning opportunities for families:
Free financial literacy class on February 4. The class will focus on credit and debit, and will have both English and Spanish language options. The session will be available in-person and online. Registration is required; contact Andrea Nunez at andrea_nunez6@dpsk12.net, or by phone at 720-424-0990 or cell at 303-409-0823. This is a great opportunity for families to learn the importance of building and maintaining good credit.
Youth Resources, including Denver Health School-Based Clinics. These clinics provide a range of essential health services for students, including vaccinations, routine check-ups, and medical visits. Families can schedule appointments or find the nearest location by scanning the QR code in the attached flyer, or by reaching out to us directly. Family Spotlight:
This month’s Family Spotlight showcases a blended, multi-generational family that has been at Lowry for over 20 years: the Riedlin/Lacy crew!
Cari and Eric Riedlin blended their families about 30 years ago; Cari had two girls (Casey and Carly), while Eric had two boys (Will and Drew)--a modern Brady Bunch family! Between their four children, Eric and Cari were blessed with nine grandchildren, five of whom attended or currently attend Lowry: Keegan, Matt, Eddie, Marti, and Dani.
Cari served as Lowry’s principal from 2002-2010 and “Denver Public Schools and Lowry have held a special place in our hearts.” Cari knows the ins and outs of school needs and funding; while she was principal, the Eagle Fund was established to support special programming and additional staffing. Eric was one of the first supporters of the Eagle Fund and worked to set an example for families and community members to support the school. The PTO still manages the Eagle Fund (now called the Aviator Fund)--this year’s donations were collected at the Spaghetti Dinner and are being used to purchase new signage for the school.
The Riedlins and Lacys are very active in the school and DPS community. Cari and her sister Lanie can frequently be found visiting school, volunteering in the classroom, or attending an event. Carly and her husband Jeff are DPS educators and are often at school to see their girls’ and nephew’s events. Kaleigh, Cari’s daughter-in-law, has been an integral part of the Lowry PTO for many years and is an amazing advocate for Lowry. Sadly, Eric passed away a few years ago and is dearly missed by his family, as well as the Lowry community–he continued to champion the school well after Cari’s principalship ended.
The Riedlins and Lacys love Lowry. According to Cari, they “will continue to support the school in any way we can!” We are lucky to have this wonderful family as part of our community.
Grade Level Shoutout
Shout out to Lowry’s MI-A Community! We are so proud of our MI-A students for showing up each day, building routines, and participating in school activities with confidence and courage. From learning together in the classroom to enjoying fun experiences like a bowling field trip, MI-A students continue to shine and grow. None of this would be possible without the dedicated teachers and paraprofessionals who support, encourage, and celebrate each student every step of the way. Thank you to our MI-A team for creating a welcoming, inclusive space where students can thrive! ♥️✈️
In partnership,
Dr. Annie Larkin
